Want To Improve Your Life? Why and How to Start Taking Charge of Your Future

“You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.”– Zig Ziglar

Often we hear about envisioning our future. It sometimes seems like a silly exercise, but lets take a look at it form a practical perspective. Let’s say you are at home and you want to be at the beach (or choose some other destination if this doesn’t work for you). Do you just stay at home, waiting to somehow miraculously be at the beach? Do you get in your car and just start driving without any direction? Chances are good, if you want to go to the beach, you get in your car (or whatever transportation you have) and start moving toward the beach. You don’t just drive/ride around aimlessly, you head in a particular direction.

Now, let’s apply that to your life. You decide you want a new job. Should you sit at home and wait for a new job to come to you? Do you just sit around and complaining about your current job and hoping it will change? Chances are good that if you do nothing, nothing will change.

Mark Twain said, “If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you always got.”

This saying makes so much sense. Have you ever tried to log into something and typed the password wrong? If you keep typing it the same way, what happens? If you keep doing the same thing (typing that same password) over and over again do think something different will happen?

If you keep doing the same thing, over and over again, do you think your life will change? It may change because of some other circumstances but will it move in the direction you want? If it does change and you didn’t have a hand in it, more likely than not the changes that happen are not what you had hoped for.

Try This

  1. Make a list of everything in your life that you want, big or small. Don’t worry if you think it is silly, petty, or seems out of reach – it is only for you to see.

  2. Take a good look at your list and choose a goal you want to focus on. How will work toward that goal? Start writing down your ideas. This will become your plan.

  3. Start working toward accomplishing your plan.

Sounds simple? Well actually, it is. With a little determination and perseverance you can reach your goals! The most difficult part is getting starting. Once you do that, if you focus on it every day you can succeed! Remember a little work every day adds up. Try it for yourself.
