One of the things many of us are good at is accomplishing those daily, weekly, or monthly tasks. But how many of those tasks align with your goals? Have you even thought about what those goals may be?
Sometimes, days, weeks, months seem to fly by and we wonder where the time went. No one likes to look back and see missed opportunities or dreams that haven’t been realized. So today is the day you need to start focusing on your dreams, your life goals.
By aligning your personal goals with your task list you are making them a priority in your life. By completing the tasks related to your personal goals, you will accomplish those goals quicker.
Life goals can impact different areas of your life, such as; personal development, financial security, relationships, health, or dreams. These goals should be very precise and measurable. Here are a few examples of life goals:
Personal Development – Learn a new language Financial Security – Pay off the mortgage Relationships – Reconnect with old friends Health – Lose 10 pounds Dream – Travel to Japan
Do you know your life goals? Are you doing anything to accomplish them?
Write down one life goal (for now) from one of the topics mentioned above. Tape the goal onto somewhere you look frequently, like your bathroom mirror or refrigerator door. You can also set a reminder on your phone to focus on your goal.
Every day make sure that one task related to this goal is included on your to-do list. (If you don’t have a to-do list, this is a good time to start one. In fact, this can be part of a goal to be more organized or better manage time.)
Reassess after one week and then one month. Have you made progress on your goal? Have you accomplished your goal? Are you ready to start adding tasks for another goal to your to-do list? Add goals for additional tasks when you can. It’s not a race, it’s something you want to do continuously, so don’t add too many goals at once.
Best of luck to anyone who tries this! I would love to hear about your experiences with aligning life goals with your to-do list.
